Happy Birthday to you!

This blog began a year ago June 9th, so in anticipation of our first birthday I thought we'd run a little contest. A really easy contest. Simply tell us about a favorite children's book in the "Comments" section of this blog post. Be sure to sign your post, but you may use only your first name and last initial if you wish. On June 9th I'll enter all the names into a hat, pull one winner, and announce the winner's name on the blog that day. The winner will get to choose TWO NEW children's hardcover books (or the equivalent of softcover books) of his/ her choosing. Yay!

(This contest is only available to users of the Richmond Memorial Library and you may only enter once per child.)

  1. I'm going to tell you about my 4-yr-old daughter's new favorite (at least for last week!) It's called Beware of the Frog by William Bee. It has neat pictures and a cute old lady named Mrs. Collywobbles, and it's definitely silly!

(ok, I guess I can't win - it's me! Ms. Eileen! Did I fool you?)

  2. Megan loves all her Fancy Nancy books...would be hard to choose just one! She also likes Amelia Bedelia stories.

  3. I love Charlie and Lola books. My favorite one is I Am Really, Really Concentrating by Lauren Child. Lola "letted" Lota win the race and that was really nice. Lola wanted to win but she concentrated really, really hard and did't drop the egg at all. She was a winner! I am a winner too! I love books!

  4. My favorites are The Magic Tree House series. I like how Jack and Annie find themselves in sticky situations all the time, but always manage to get home safely. It's hard to put those books down without finishing the whole story (with help from Mom, or course).

  5. Celia's favorite book this week is That's Not My Bunny. It is an adorable Touch and Feel book about a pet bunny. She loves to sit and "read" it to herself.

  6. Diana's favorite lately is our Nursery Rhyme book. She especially likes Mary Had A Little Lamb, which we sing over and over at bedtime!

  8. so many great books, hard to choose one, even one per child...so I'll do my easiest child first - Michael Mulligan and the Steamshovel - coincidental that his name is also Michael - this remains his absolute fave (although my fave from that author is Little House)

  9. Everyone, thank you so much for sharing! Some of these books are unknown to me; I'll have to look for them and possibly add them to a storytime this summer. Again, thanks for sharing and keep reading the blog! The winner will be announced on the blog on June 9th.

  10. My almost 4-year-old son loves the "Moonbear" books by Frank Asch, such as "Moongame," "Mooncake," "Bear Shadow," and "Happy Birthday, Moon." The bear is a lot like a preschooler - someone who is curious and just learning about the world.

  11. I like to read. My favorite is Dr Seuss - Oh, the THINKS you can Think. I most enjoy the rhymes and when it says Think! Think and Wonder. Wonder and think. How much water can fifty five elephants drink.

  12. Kate prefers "Chapter" Books when riding in the car but overall she's into the classics - Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown.
